NFFN England: Future Proof Farming

The Nature Friendly Farming Network and Defra have planned five events across England to discuss the roll-out of the Environmental Land Management scheme through question and answer sessions with a Defra representative.

The Nature Friendly Farming Network has planned five events across England to discuss the roll-out of the Environmental Land Management scheme through question and answer sessions with a Defra representative.Future farm schemes are there to support the sector in its transition to a sustainable, nature-friendly future. But navigating available options and the application process can be overwhelming. This session is an opportunity for all farmers to:

Consider how you will make environmental land management work for your business.

Learn about the range of schemes and grants available, and find which options are suitable for you.

During the session you will also hear from local farmer, Patrick Barker (Lodge Farm) who combines his passions of conservation and farming on his family-owned 550 ha arable farm in North Suffolk. Patrick has demonstrated for a number of years that a modern, intensive arable farm can also be bursting with farm wildlife. The farm is a family-owned partnership, with Patrick and his cousin Brian running the farming and environmental contracting business. Situated on clay soil, the farm grows cereals, spring linseed, spring beans and herbage grass seed.

Since entering Higher Level Stewardship scheme in 2007, Patrick and Brian have developed a more holistic approach to the way the farm integrates farming and conservation and their land is now managed as a whole ecosystem.
