See a prehistoric standing stone and the Iron Age fort of Barry Hill, learning about the heritage, myths and legends of the area as you go.

Alyth Cyclery

This route is an easy loop suitable for most bikes. You’ll take in one of the many prehistoric standing stones in the area and cycle through Bealach Gabráin, the narrow pass between the Hill of Loyal and the famous Iron Age fort of Barry Hill, learning about some of the heritage, myths and legends of the area as you go.Riding Time: 1 - 1.5 hrsCost: Free Start/Finish: Alyth Cyclery. Meet in the car park at the side of the cycle shopNearest Parking: Commercial Street, AlythSuitable for: Road bikes, hybrids and e-bikesTotal Distance: 12.2 kmTotal Ascent: 160 mTerrain: A mixture of quiet roads, all on tarmacAccess: Fully accessible with no gatesRoute Category: ModerateKey Facilities on Route: Alyth (accommodation, shops, restaurants, cafes)OS Landranger Map: 53 All participants must bring a road-worthy bicycle with them and a spare inner tube of the right size for their tyres (these could be purchased at Alyth Cyclery) in case of any punctures. Participants must wear a bike helmet and bring a waterproof jacket with them and any snacks and drinks which they require. Children attending the ride must be over the age of 15, competent cyclists with plenty of experience and accompanied by an adult.This session is part of <a href="https://cateranecomuseum.co.uk" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">The Cateran Ecomuseum’s </a>Travel For All Our Tomorrow’s programme which offers a number of free, active travel for leisure experiences co-designed with local communities and led by local people and which aims to encourage more people in the Tayside region to enjoy what is on their doorstep, rather than increase their carbon footprint by travelling further afield.The guided cycle ride is being delivered by the Cateran Ecomuseum with the support of Inspiring Scotland and the Scottish Government’s Rural and Island Communities Ideas into Action (RICIA) Fund and Paths for All Smarter Choices Smarter Places programme.
