Exploring the constructions of children’s rights and participation in China

Prof Claire Cassidy from the University of Strathclyde  and Dr Minyi Li from Beijing Normal University  will share their research

<p>‘Tackling ethical challenges in research with children: contextualising children’s rights in China’ project includes a series of 6 monthly webinars. This webinar is the first one in this series of webinars, which focuses on how children’s rights and ethics in research with children are constructed and understood in the context of China. </p>

<h2>Dr Minyi Li </h2><h3>Dr. Li Minyi is an Associate Professor of Education from Beijing Normal University. Her research interests include Early Childhood Education and National Development Strategies, Continuing Professional Development and Capacity Building for Early Childhood Workforce, Early Childhood Curriculum and Pedagogy for Sustainability Education. Dr Li also acts as Associate Editor of the Journal of Research in Childhood Education and is a member of the International Editorial Board of journals Children &amp; Society and Early Years: An International Research Journal.</h3>

<h2>Dr Claire Cassidy</h2><h3>Dr Claire Cassidy is a Professor of Education in the School of Education from the University of Strathclyde. Her research interests primarily relate to practical philosophy with children and young people, children’s human rights and human rights education, and concepts of children and childhood. She is on the editorial board for Childhood &amp; Philosophy: Journal of the International Council for Philosophical Inquiry with Children and Scottish Educational Review: an International Journal of Education Research.</h3>

<p>This series of 6 monthly webinars are co-organised by eight academics from Chinese and UK universities. They are Dr Yan Zhu (UCL); Dr Jie Gao (UCL); Professor Xiaoling Wu (Nanjing Normal University); Ms Shan Xu (China Philanthropy Research Institute, Beijing Normal University); Professor Meng Deng (East China Normal University); Dr Yuwei Xu (University of Nottingham); Dr Yuchen Wang (University of Strathclyde); Dr Xiao Qu (University of the West of Scotland). <p>These 6 monthly webinars include:</p><p>1. Introduction session in February 2023: This session explores the constructions of children’s rights and participation in research with children in China. 2023.2.23 - 7 pm-8 pm (Beijing), 11am-12 noon (UK)</p><p>2. Scoping session in March 2023: This session aims to map out ‘in general’ ethical challenges in research with children in China. 2023.3.30 - 7 pm- 8 pm (Beijing), 12 noon-1 pm (UK)</p><p>3. Disabled children session in April 2023: This session aims to discuss the specific ethical challenges in research with disabled children in China. 2023.4.27 - 7 pm - 8 pm (Beijing), 12noon-1pm (UK) </p><p>4. Left-behind and migrant children session in May 2023: This session aims to discuss the specific ethical challenges in research with left-behind children and migrant children in China. 2023.5.25 - 7 pm-8 pm (Beijing), 12noon-1pm (UK) </p><p>5. Very young children (0-3 years old) session in June 2023: This session focuses on the specific ethical challenges in research with very young children in China. 2023.6.29 - 7 pm-8 pm (Beijing), 12noon-1pm (UK) ）</p><p>6. Conclusion and action session in July 2023: This session generates strategies to tackle ethical challenges in research with children in China. 2023.7.27 - 7 pm-8 pm (Beijing)，12noon-1pm (UK) </p><p></p>
