We, The Post-Crash Economics Society, are a group of economics students at The University of Manchester. It is our belief that the content of the economics syllabus and teaching methods could and should be seriously rethought.

PCES are excited to announce, Economics for Change!We&#x27;re inviting all students to a full day, interactive event exploring the role of economics education in building an economy fit for people and planet. <h2>W﻿hat to expect?</h2>Economics for Change isn’t your standard economics conference. It’s an event designed for students that recognise that the solutions to the crises’ we face aren’t being offered by our current learning; and for all that believe a better economy is possible. You should expect a variety of talks, workshops and interactive sessions that will engage, challenge and provoke. The theme of the conference is connecting the cost of living scandal with economics education, and building a campaign for students to organise for change in their education. The cost of living scandal is real. People can’t afford to eat, to heat their homes, to pay their rent: we are struggling. The sources of these crises are often attributed to ‘economics’. Is that the case? Isn’t there an alternative?And yet, our curriculum doesn’t have the answer to these questions. Instead of actionable tools to enact change, it primarily deals in abstract models that are separated from the application of this theory. Something isn’t working but the solutions to it are not part of our learning and the structure of the university isn’t working to support this. How do we connect our education with the world around us?Join us to organise and campaign for an economics education that equips students with the knowledge and skills to create a better economy. <h2>W﻿ho are we?</h2>The Post-Crash Economics Society are a group of students at the University of Manchester who are campaigning for an economics education that serves people and planet. We believe that economics education should be diverse in its content, grounded in the real world and accessible to all. A light lunch and refreshments will be provided free of charge.
