Join local archaeologist Dr Gavin Lindsay for a walk around the remains of the impressive fort on Barry Hill, a defended hill top settlement shrouded in myth. Marvel at its impressive defences, explore its construction, re-modelling and decline, and muse over its place in Arthurian legend whilst enjoying the spectacular views across Strathmore.Grade of walk: Medium - Suitable for people with at least average fitness and some country walking experience, including 12 – 16 year olds with accompanying adult. Approx. 1.5km with steep sections across open grazed hillside.Cost: FreeAssembly point: The cattle feeding compound at the foot of Barry Hill, accessed off the B954 (NGR: NO 2616,5014); car parking is available here. Public transport and pedestrian attendees should email organisers in advance to arrange car share from Alyth.Please ensure you’ve eaten lunch before joining the walk. You may wish to bring snack rations and drinking water. Be prepared for Scotland’s varied weather with clothing for wet/cold and warm/dry conditions. Please wear sturdy footwear with ankle support suitable for mixed upland terrain. There are no public toilets on this route.
