A tour specially to engage young people with object-based story telling.
We'll see the must-see highlights in one of the greatest museums in the world. Find out the fascinating stories behind the objects delivered in an entertaining style for young budding history lovers.
PLEASE NOTE: This tour is not suitable for children under the age of 12.
We'll ask all the big questions , why were these objects made, how did they get here, all told by former official British Museum tour guide who knows the museum so well he's even had sleepovers in the mummies gallery.
I MPORTANT: The museum sometimes restricts entry due to high volume of visitors. So to be on the safe side, please pre-book free of charge tickets from the official British Museum website for each of your group. Thanks!
Some of the highlights in this tour include
- the museum building itself, with its glass roof and the troublesome diving birds
- the museum's founder and his relationship with chocolate
- the Rosetta Stone, and the teenage boy-king who needed friends to survive; how the stone was discovered and how hieroglyphs were deciphered
- the Egyptian gallery and the bust of Pharoah Rameses II; how did they manage to get a 8 tonne statue out of the desert? With a circus strongman of course who could lift 17 people!
- the Parthenon sculptures (the ‘Elgin Marbles') and the stories behind the Greek mythology.
- Anglo Saxon buried gold of Sutton Hoo and how it was dug out of the ground. Do you own the gold treasures that you find in your own back garden?
