Keynote speakers
We’ll be joined by two exciting keynote speakers, who will discuss the findings from this year's programme and the impact on the sector. As well as the theme for the next Let's Get Real, focusing on using digital to add value for cultural audiences and organisations.

Sejul Malde, Strategic Research Development Manager at The Australian National University’s College of Arts and Social Sciences

Building and applying a value-based literacy to create more worth from your digital activitiesThere has been much needed recent attention on building the digital literacies and capacities of museums and their people. Key to this is recognising when and how digital activities and practices can be successful and generate worth. Sure, digital might create financial value, although that should not be assumed. Rather, value should be thought of as multi-dimensional, operating across a range of scales, types and contexts. Do we really understand who gets value from our digital work, and how, why and when this happens? If we could we’d have a better grasp of how to plan for digital success. Arguably to do this, we need to accompany our digital literacies with developing a value-based literacy. Sejul Malde from the Australian National University will reflect on his work to date around value, to propose an initial framework, with examples, for building and applying our value-based literacy in the context of digital practice in museums.

Dr Sophie Frost, Research Fellow, Institute for Digital Culture, University of Leicester and Culture24 Associate

Sophie's keynote: Practicing digital courage for a thriving hybrid museum
New forms of digital activity and digital practice have created a new, hybrid landscape of museum work. Drawing on the experiments of this year’s LGR participating organisations, Dr Sophie Frost will explore two ideas pivotal to understanding the hybridisation of our museums: digital courage – the practice of equality when using technology in any museum context, and “hidden” digital labour – the emotional, psycho-social, and physical costs linked to much digital transformation work. Sophie will reflect on how these ideas inform more human-centred, empathetic hybrid museum practice, and how they might be useful in your own museum context.

Jane Finnis, CEO of Culture24, will welcome guests and speakers to the seminar.
