Prof. Takumi Asakura, Tokyo University of Science, JapanTitle: Recent developments in vibroacoustic finite-difference time-domain calculations in the field of building acousticsAbstract: The development of simulation techniques that can accurately predict vibration and sound environments in urban and architectural spaces will enable their effective use in the design stages of manufacturing, architecture, and machinery in the industrial sector. The presenter has developed a numerical scheme using the vibroacoustic finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method to realize a high-precision wave-based numerical prediction. Since this method can be used to predict the vibroacoustic transmission of the building structure by coupling sound and vibration fields, such a significant problem of the building environments as the structure-borne sound can be well simulated to generate such intuitively-understandable qualitative results like animation or auralization of sound propagation as well as computation of quantitative indicators of the acoustic performance. In this presentation, the features of FDTD method in the field of building acoustics will be discussed by introducing numerical case studies using FDTD.
