IKWRO - Women's Rights Organisation is the leading national charity representing Middle Eastern, North African and Afghan women and girls who are at risk of or have experienced "honour" based abuse, forced marriage, child marriage, marital captivity, spouse abandonment, female genital mutilation and domestic abuse. We provide advice, advocacy, professional counselling and training. IKWRO- Women’s Rights Organisation and The Organisation for Emancipation of Women Conference.

This International Women&#x27;s Day, we invite you to a joint event by IKWRO- Women’s Rights Organisation and The Organization for Emancipation of Women to a conversation in solidarity with Iranian women. There will be an opportunity for a Q&amp;A after the discussions. This event will be streamed on Rahai Zan TV in due course. Date TBC.Moderated and Hosted by Payzee Mahmod, IKWRO Campaign Manager. Payzee has reached international audiences and spoken widely on the need for changes to the laws surrounding child marriage, successfuly leading IKWRO&#x27;s Safeguard Futures Ban Child Marriage to legislative change in February 2023, banning all forms of child marriage for anyone under the age of 18 accross England and Wales. Keynote Speakers:Diana Nammi is Executive Director of IKWRO. She has dedicated her life to campaigning for universal human rights. She spent 12 years as a Kurdish freedom fighter and this year published ‘Girl With A Gun’ a book about her early life. In 2002 she founded IKWRO - Women’s Rights Organisation safeguarding and advocating for women and girls from Middle Eastern and North African communities affected by so called “honour” based abuse, forced marriage, child marriage, FGM and domestic violence. Diana is a multi award wining women&#x27;s rights activist and has recently been bestowed an honorary degree from the Department of Law at from Essex University and also from the University of Saint Andrews in 2019.Elahe Amani is a gender, peace, and human rights activist. She served California State University System for the last 31 years in the capacity of Director of Student and Academic technology services, lecturer in the Women&#x27;s Studies Program, and Deputy Director of Title IX. She is the President/ Chair of WIN and one of the Iranian Circle of WIN ( ICWIN ) Founders. She is a well-published writer both in English and Persian on issues related to Peace, justice, women, and human rights. Her articles are published by Women News Network, Open Democracy, Truthout, Safe World for Women, and many Iranian women / human rights publications, including but not limited to Khat Solh ( peace Line), Shahrvand, Iran Women Solidarity, LA Progressive, Truth out and other Iranian feminist/women &amp; human rights publications. Nadia Mahmood is an Iraqi feminist based in Iraq. She is a member of the political Bureau of the worker-communist party of Iraq. Nadia holds a PhD in Social and Policy Sciences. She participated in the founding women’s rights organisations inside and outside Iraq. She co-founder of Aman Women Alliance. Nasrin Parvaz became a civil rights activist when the Islamic regime took power in 1979. She was arrested in 1982, tortured and spent eight years in prison. Her books include ‘One Woman&#x27;s Struggle in Iran, A Prison Memoir’, and ‘The Secret Letters from X to A’, (Victorina Press 2018). Nasrin studied for a degree in Psychology and subsequently gained an MA in International Relations. She then completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Systemic Theory at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust, where she worked in a team of family therapists.Mino Hemati is a Producer and Host Journalist of the Rahai Zan TV (Emancipation of Women TV, a weekly TV program broadcasting via satellite since October 2004 from Los Angeles, Channel One TV (in Farsi) to viewers in North America, Europe, Middle East and Farsi Speaking countries, Iran, Afghanistan and Tajikistan. The program Centers on women’s rights issues, in defense of defenseless victims of Islamic penal law, women condemned to stoning or other cruel punishment. With the rise of Islamic rule and the passage of anti-woman religious laws, Mino Hemati continued her awareness-raising activities among working women from the central and Northern provinces to Kurdistan. Mino Hemati is one of the founders of The Organization for Emancipation of Women. Since 2004, she has expanded her activities with the production and implementation of the TV program RahaiZan “Emancipation of Women” on Channel One, and continues to this day in this stronghold in defense of the rights of women and children.Sajia Sojaei is an Afghan filmmaker, writer and media personality. She started her carrier as a filmmaker from Iran involved in directing documentaries and short films. Apart from that Sajia has done social work in Iran. She has directed many short films one of her film “The forgotten Story” that was very well appreciated. Sajia holds almost 14 years experience in the field of Editing, script writing, photography and direction. Presently she is working on a short film named “POPAL” and “AFGHANI CHICKEN” in India She is the member of “INDO AFGHAN FILM and CULTURE FORUM” that is supported by International Chamber of Media and Entertainment Industry. Sajia is introducing rich Persian cultural heritage to Indian filmmakers. Recently Sajia has been awarded With Marwah Studios International Award 2020 for excellence in Cinema. Shukria Barakzai is an Afghan politician, journalist, woman and human rights activist and prominent Muslim feminist, and a mother of five. Additionally, She has over 24 years of experience in women&#x27;s and girls education. Advocacy, civil society, media, Diplomat, legislation and lawmaking including the Constitution of Afghanistan was prevailed elected member of Parliament twice from Kabul the capital of Afghanistan. After the fall of the Taliban she founded Aina-E-Zan (Women’s Mirror), a national weekly newspaper in 2002 and the country’s first paper aimed at women. In the October 2005 -2016 elected member of parliament Afghanistan She was also among 2000 Outstanding Intellectuals of the 21st Century by Cambridge University. Nazira Mehmari is Operational Manager at IKWRO, where she leads the training and volunteer project, advice, specialist counselling teams and refuge, who between them speak 11 languages. She oversees all casework, which includes “honour” based violence, forced marriage, FGM and domestic violence. Nazira became a Peshmerger (freedom fighter) at the age of 15. She undertook a range of roles, initially nursing the injured. By 1998 Nazira’s activism meant that it was too dangerous for her to stay in Kurdistan and she was granted Refugee status in the UK.Farah Nazeer has been chief executive of Women’s Aid since March 2021. With more than 20 years of director-level experience in the charity sector, she has devoted her career to women’s rights and working to end violence against women and children. Farah has led Women’s Aid during a period of transition and significant growth, steering the charity through the unprecedented rise in demand for domestic abuse services presented by the Covid-19 pandemic. Under Farah’s leadership, Women’s Aid has delivered and supported member organisations to deliver higher levels of lifesaving direct services throughout England, such as Women’s Aid’s Live Chat service. Farah’s voice has enhanced the charity’s ongoing campaigns to increase the safety and rights of domestic abuse survivors, and their children.
