West Midlands CIOF Conference 2023 This one-day event is full of inspirational speakers and thought-provoking seminars, plus plenty of opportunities to network and learn from your peers.There will be sessions for all kinds of fundraisers, from director-level to those taking their first steps in our vibrant and diverse sector. Programme summaryOpening plenaryLouise McCathie, Director of Fundraising at NHS Charities Together, will deliver the conference's opening plenary on embracing uncertainty and seeing the possibilities.Morning seminarsBarrie Hodge, Head of Fundraising and Communications at St Basils, will share what he has learned in developing a tailored corporate fundraising strategy and the skills/techniques his team have used to grow this revenue stream.Shahida Aslam, Director of Operations at education charity the Helena Kennedy Foundation, will share her thoughts about leading with gratitude, being conscious and being intentional, addressing questions including: Can you a be a leader and be ‘nice’?Helen Lam, Innovation &amp; Digital Fundraising Development Manager at Young Lives vs Cancer, will share practical tips about putting innovation into action without much budget. From getting teams on board with innovation, getting comfortable with failure, to making it easier to bring supporters voices into your work.James Davis, Events Manager at Walking With The Wounded, will talk about how to successfully grow events during periods of economic uncertainty, and how to develop your corporate relationships hand in glove with your event portfolio growth.Richard Spencer works with a wide range of charities at About Loyalty. He will lead a masterclass in showing gratitude, including some research results, a case study, and an opportunity to work on growing your charity’s supporter loyalty.Fidelis Navas is Community Director at Warwickshire County Cricket Club. She will take a look at strategic planning, asking the question: 'Fundraising strategy: what’s the point of it if you don’t love it?'A﻿FTERNOON PLENARYW﻿e are delighted to welcome Tjivejo Pennylope Kapere, Associate Director for Equity and Justice, London Funders who will present on "The Power of Difference in Fundraising"Pennylope’s experience has provided her a 360 overview of the charity sector as she has held roles in grant management, fundraising, community development and overseeing corporate partnerships. She also holds a master’s degree in Philanthropic Studies from Canterbury University. She is the Associate Director for Equity and Justice at London Funders.Pennylope has founded her own organisation, UBUNTU PHILANTHROPY, working to support small charities primarily from the global majority to access funding. She supports them to consider their fundraising strategy, organisational development, operational plan and governance to ensure good practice.Afternoon seminarsMatt Mangan, Director of Philanthropy and Partnerships at Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Hospital Charity, will help you explore if Giving Clubs could help grow the income of your charity.Jo Black, Interim CEO at Kids Club Kampala, will talk about her leadership journey including what she has learned along the way in the charity sector and through creating a start-up business.Daren Knight, CEO of HIV charity George House Trust, will talk about fundraising in a challenging environment, covering the highs and lows of fundraising in the current climate, considering those unexpected hurdles and totally random surprises!Ian Carr will deliver a session called 'How to deal with your charity’s identity crisis', whether you are a national charity that wants to appeal to a local audience or a regional charity that want to branch out and reach national networks.Rachel Shepherd, a fundraising consultant, will speak about The Ripple Effect: Making the most from a campaign as a sole fundraiser.F﻿i Harrison, Head of Fundraising at Birmingham Dogs Home will present on “Diversified Fundraising – which plates to spin and why” .Closing plenary - Paul Findlay, Director of Charities, Oaks ConsultancyFor 12 years, Paul served in the British Army, undertaking three tours in Iraq. In 2009, he was deployed to Afghanistan, where an IED attack led to the loss of his right leg, resulting in his medical retirement. It was after his injury that was first introduced to the world of charities, a number of which assisted him in rebuilding his life.Since his retirement from the Army, Paul has held a number of senior leadership roles across organisations including Barclays, Blesma – The Limbless Veterans, The Football Association and now Oaks Consultancy as Director of Charities. He also advises the Cabinet Office and NHS England on Veteran Affairs. Beyond his professional endeavours, Paul is a dedicated philanthropist. He has successfully raised over £750,000 for charities that hold a special place in his heart. In recognition of his contributions, the late Queen Elizabeth II bestowed upon him the honour of an MBE.*﻿* New for 2023 ** This year we're adding a virtual package to our conference offering, to allow even more people to join us.
