How to Write Funding Applications

We’re a London based not-for-profit organisation that supports artists and cultural producers interested in or working in the field of arts and health. The Hub is artist led and primarily for artists, although we welcome people from other backgrounds such as health and care professionals. We are inclusive. Our organisation is open to artists from all backgrounds, communities, experiences and qualifications.Whilst we’re London based we also work online and with partner organisations to support artists across the UK.

This 2 part workshop aims to demystify and breakdown the world of funding applications into something understandable and achievable for artists.Your ticket is for both sessions and you should attend both sessions. The workshop takes place over Zoom.Who is running these workshops?These workshops are run by <a href="http://artsandhealthhub.org" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Arts &amp; Health Hub</a> Director and visual artist <a href="http://danielregan.com" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Daniel Regan </a>who has raised almost £1m in funding for his own practice and organisations he has worked with. His funding successes have come from Arts Council England project and Developing Your Creative Practice (DYCP) grants, the National Lottery Community Fund, City Bridge Trust and private sponsors, through to smaller artist grants and bursaries from organisations such as A-N.What we will cover?<ul><li>Understanding the difference between certain types of grants (i.e artist development grants and public engagement funding);</li><li>Focusing on specific types of bids, including Arts Council England (i.e project grants);</li><li>How to clearly and concisely describe your work and what this funding will help you to achieve;</li><li>Understanding how to budget, pay yourself and consider the hidden costs;</li><li>Considering access costs and how to support yourself in work that is emotionally complex or involves lived experience;</li><li>Looking at partnerships with organisations;</li><li>Understanding what public engagement is.</li></ul>Please note that due to time constraints we will not necessarily focus on your specific application. It felt very well planned and organised but also had a nice informal quality that allowed open conversation around the topics. The elevator pitch exercise was particularly helpful, it really got me thinking about how to explain my work and make it accessible.&quot;&quot;Daniel was extremely clear about how to go through an application point by point. It felt like a safe space for people to be open and honest with questions. Daniel was very knowledgeable and it felt like a chat between a group of friends. (An informative chat between a group of friends!!).&quot;&quot;Daniel makes writing a funding bid seem achievable and accessible, even if you don&#x27;t feel you have the confidence, he makes it clear and explains what you need to do to do it. Reminding us that the funding is for people like us, for the ideas we have and that we are allowed to access funding, we don&#x27;t have to be someone &#x27;special&#x27; really helped. I&#x27;ve had an idea for a few months and have talked to a few people who have been very positive about it and doing the workshop has given me a bit more confidence to approach some organisations with a view to becoming partners and to formalise my idea into a proposal that can go into a bid. Thanks so much Daniel, you made me feel relaxed and valued in the space and I&#x27;d happily do another of your workshops in the future.&quot;
