Join Xenia at Peer UK and share your stories and drawings of trailblazing women in Hackney!

This Women’s History Month, Xenia embarks upon a journey to explore untold women’s stories in Hackney...Xenia will create a walking trail/map of stories so that more people can find out about the fantastic women living and working in the borough! They are particularly interested in finding out about everyday women, including migrant, refugee, asylum seeking, LGBTQ+ and disabled women and women's organisations whose stories and achievements are often missing from our public spaces.H﻿elp Xenia explore and collect women's stories that you think should be included in their map - join us on Thursday 30th March from 3.30pm at Peer to meet the Xenia team, find out more about the project and submit you nominations. W﻿e will be joined by Kremena Dimitrova, storyteller, lecturer in Visual Culture, and a practice-based PhD researcher, who will help us illustrate and animate our favourite Hackney Women!T﻿his is a family-friendly, drop-in event. A﻿bout XeniaXenia brings together women from different backgrounds to connect, share and learn. We welcome women learning English to participate alongside women who speak fluent English, using Xenia sessions as a time to connect with people they wouldn’t otherwise meet and learn about each other’s perspectives through friendship and shared learning. We are based at various heritage venues, arts centres and museums, using the objects and stories from our shared history to help us connect with each other and the history of our area.A﻿bout PeerPEER is a not-for-profit neighbourhood space for contemporary art, located in Hoxton, East London. We place artists and local communities at the heart of our internationally recognised programmes of public exhibitions, collaborative projects, talks, events and offsite commissions. Located in a converted shopfront in Arden Estate on Hoxton Street, PEER overlooks and maintains Khadija’s Garden. PEER has a critically acclaimed 24-year history as one of London’s most experimental spaces for contemporary art. To support and encourage dialogue between visitors, artists and their work, a programme of event-based activity takes place throughout each exhibition. Central to all our activities is PEER Ambassadors, a free, collaborative and creative programme for people aged 17–25 from underrepresented and lower socio-economic backgrounds who live and work in PEER’s local area. The programme offers paid work experience at our street-facing gallery, alongside professional development and learning opportunities, working closely with an Artist in Residence.A﻿bout KremenaKremena Dimitrova is a London based illustrator-as-historian, storyteller, lecturer in Visual Culture, and a practice-based PhD researcher. She specialises in children's illustration, comics, murals, public art installations, mapmaking/trails, and visual storytelling in the cultural, heritage, and education sectors. Kremena often works with archives and collections and uses a mixture of creative approaches, such as character development, humour, rhymes, words, and images, to bring hidden and untold narratives to life. As an illustrator, Kremena’s commissions are socially engaged and site-specific in nature and involve collaborating with the public to explore history, culture, and heritage in creative and memorable ways - through art, storytelling, and co-creation. As an educator, Kremena has wide-ranging experience in delivering dynamic, engaging, and flexible face-to-face/online events, talks, lectures, and workshops in formal and informal educational settings. She focusses on edutainment. Exploring different media, from drawing, painting, and printmaking to collage and comics making, participants are encouraged to be imaginative in an inclusive, creative, and playful environment. www.kremenadimitrova.com
