The Spit it Out Festival 2023

Spit it Out are bringing together an incredible programme of Workshops, Talks, Exhibitions, Screenings and Live Performances focusing on how we discuss and create around the topics of consent, identity, mental health and transformative justice.

Colour Culture Arts and Spit it Out present an evening of poetry from Zambia to Scotland.Twaano is a Zambian word from the Tonga language that means ‘stories’. This event, hosted by award-winning Zambian Poet Musenga Katongo, offers insight for both Zambian and Scottish audiences on stories relating to mental health and trauma that are inspired by Zambian living. We will have performances from poets from both countries as well as an open mic section available to anyone from across continents!IG: @colourculturearts / @musenga_katongoMUSENGA KATONGOMusenga Katongo is a Zambian spoken word artist, author, creative arts entrepreneur and founder of Colour Culture Arts. He is a 4 time international and local poetry slam champion, TEDx Performer, twice award-winning author and copywriter.FORESTForest is a Zambian creative who is versed in the art of Spoken Word. She writes about the negative side of the human condition—the depression and other ugly things in the world—and wraps them up in a way that doesn’t try to explain them, just acknowledge them.DESTRO FNPDexter “Destro FNP” Fundanga is a versatile hip-hop artist known for his impactful writing and performances. With a career spanning since 2012, he has worked with top businesses as a copywriter and voiceover artist. He is passionate about using art to change the narrative and is currently collaborating with other artists on a new hip-hop mixtape.KASUNGOKasungo is a Zambian performing poet and spoken word artist whose artistry is an expression of her life experiences. She uses her poetry to speak of love and light, hope, peace, and her passion for inspiring people to find freedom through self-expression.VANESSA CHISAKULAVanessa Chisakula is a spoken word artist based in Zambia and the co-founder and country director of Word Smash Poetry. She is also an activist, youth leader and content creator that has experienced the beauty of being able to birth a story from what some think cannot be told.PETRONELLAPetronella is a spoken word artist, poetry slam champion and self-published poet. Her art cradles her Christian faith while exploring perspectives of life and living firstly as a woman and then as an African. She speaks of hope and gravitates towards nature and desires all to find a home in her words.SYDNEY MULENGA JR.Sydney Mulenga Jr is a teacher, spoken word artist and aspiring author. He is a passionate storyteller and incorporates this passion into his art. His art is centred on highlighting the different aspects of the human experience on a personal, community and national level.KREEDRaphael Banda is a multi-slam-winning spoken word artist on stage known as Kreed. He started doing poetry in high school in 2016 and continued in the arts within Lusaka where he participated in 9 local poetry slams and competitions and emerged victorious in 6 of them.
