Sessions will take place between Adelaide Place Venue and The Renfield Centre.</h2>On November 4th Scottish CND will host the Festival For Survival. Taking place across two fantastic venues, Adelaides and the Renfield Centre in Glasgow, this event will bring together and incredible line up of campaigners, civic voices, think tanks, academics, cultural figures and international guests. In a range of workshops, plenaries and cultural exhibits we will bring hundreds of people together to discuss and debate how we can make another world possible, with a focus on the twin threats to our planet: nuclear calamity and catastrophic climate change. These issues fuse together to threaten the very habitat we rely on. Today’s nuclear bombs are many times more destructive than those dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. All of the nuclear states including India and China are developing new weapons while the non-nuclear powers create new pressure towards disarmament through the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. At the same time, we need a full-scale mobilisation of resources to tackle climate change and environmental destruction. The movement for nuclear disarmament and action on climate is needed now more than ever. In Scotland, we have a special responsibility to rise to that challenge. Removal of nuclear warheads from Faslane and Coulport would dismantle the British nuclear weapons system and prove that nuclear states can be disarmed. Meanwhile, Scotland can play a leading role in taking action to avert climate breakdown. Let&#x27;s discuss how we can build a movement for nuclear disarmament and climate justice. Global Scotland: How we can act for peace and climate justice

KIRK LOUNGE To arm activists, campaigners and interested organisations/individuals with the analytical tools to make powerful arguments against nuclear weapons. This will take on the central myth – that nuclear weapons make us safer – while also highlighting the huge environmental impact of these so-called “deterrents.”

Myth Busting: ‘deterrence’ ‘security’ ‘safety’ ‘green’? Hear informed experts.

GARNETHILL To explore the impact of war and environmental destruction on women and the importance of constructing feminist perspectives and approaches to these issues. We will look to discuss the role of women in the peace movement today and historically.

Women, war and climate change: A feminist response

THE CHAPEL To launch the Reclaim Our Clyde campaign, alongside representatives from climate groups to explore how we can build effective movements for change, and forge successful alliances in the process.

KIRK LOUNGE Workshop followed by Q & A. Youth-led session discussing the global links between nuclear weapons and climate change, and how Scotland can respond. An inspirational vision from young people working in the peace and climate movements.

Fighting for the Future: Youth for Nuclear and Climate Justice

GARNETHILL To provide analysis of military conflict in Europe, including the consequences for the environment and potential of nuclear arms being used. We will hear from representatives from the anti-war and peace movement, as well as foreign policy experts on the matters which arise from the conflict such as European rearmament, sovereignty, and international law.

Peace in Europe: Is There a Way Forward?

THE CHAPEL To assess the impact of the military industrial complex on the environment and the planet’s resources. Experts in this field will break down this question in relation to arguments for peace, divestment from the arms and nuclear industries and the transition to a green economy.

The Ecological Bootprint: The military cost to our environment

BLYTHEWOOD HALL Given recent political developments, we will be holding a special session on the unfolding crisis in Palestine. With expert speakers we will explore the following themes: why an immediate ceasefire is needed; the urgency for international law to be meaningful; how we can work to avoid further devastating wars in the Middle East; the nuclear threats involved.
