Research Data: Stories from the Field

Do you work with data from partners and collaborators?

Research data can be messy – and that’s ok! In this Data Conversation we want to hear stories from the field including design, collection, processing and analysing data. We are especially keen to hear about collaborations between researchers and practitioners or policy makers: how you work together to design and deliver useful insights for policy and practice despite the inherent messiness of the ‘data’ you collect and use.

Come and share your data stories around research data from partners and collaborators with us - what works, what doesn't work.

  • What kinds of data are you using from "the field"? E.g. health, census, industry or social media data?
  • How do you process data supplied by others?
  • What are the benefits of research collaborations?
  • What are the stumbling blocks sharing or using such data?
  • How is data managed by others "in the field" and how is that different from the academic environment?

What to expect

The Data Conversation session will feature 4-6 short talks from Lancaster researchers. Each short talk will be 10 minutes long and there will be time for discussion.

There will also be time for networking with your peers. Don't miss the pizza at the beginning of the event!

Call for Talks

You can attend and benefit from your colleagues’ experiences, or come and present your own experiences. We welcome talks and input from Early Career Researchers as well as from more experienced academics or research support staff. Speaker slots are available for this event. Your lightning talk should not be longer than ten minutes.

The event will start with an informal catch-up over lunch (free pizza!) for everybody who joins us 1:30-2 pm.

Talks will start at 2 pm, but you are welcome to join us for free pizza (including vegetarian options) from 1:30 pm on the day.

A full agenda will be available shortly before the event.

How to take part

In order to let us know about your lightning talk, just register and use the "Speaker" options. Choose the "Attendee" option if you just want to come along.
