Overview

A 6 week support block for parent / carers to provide tips and strategies to reduce distress.

For parents/carers living in Bristol, North Somerset, South Glos and BaNES

A 6-week course and discussion group for parents/carers of children that present behaviours that parents and carers may find challenging. No diagnosis is required to join this group.

Over the six weeks we will explore sensory sensitivities, anxiety, communication difficulties and a range of other issues can contribute to distress. We will discuss:

  • What are distress behaviours?
  • What causes distress in autistic individuals?
  • How can you support your child?

Each week will begin with a presentation from facilitators on key topics. The rest of the session is an opportunity to get to know each other, ask questions and share our experiences. The group will help members to learn ways to support your child and reduce distress.

When

The group will meet on Wednesdays from 12pm-2pm.


  • Wednesday 8th January 12-2pm-Intoduction to distressed behaviour
  • Wednesday 14th January 12-2pm-Anxiety and behaviour
  • Wednesday 21st January 12-2pm-Sensory issues and behaviour
  • Wednesday 28th January 12-2pm-Self esteem and behaviour
  • Wednesday 4th February 12-2pm-Tools and strategies
  • Wednesday 11th Februaury 12-2pm-Recovery and self care

Attendees are expected to attend all 6 sessions but we understand that life is complicated and you may not be able to commit to all of the sessions
