Folk Sinfonietta - summer 2023

At Wren Music we’ve been building communities with music for 40 years. We run music making groups, events and special concerts giving you opportunities to get involved or listen. We use folk and traditional music to empower hundreds of people from all backgrounds to take part in music using voice or instruments.

<ul><li>Do you need a musical challenge?</li><li>A﻿re you looking for a group opportunity to add to your music lessons?</li><li>Do you want to be part of trying new and complex things with folk tunes?</li></ul>T﻿his project will give instrumental players the chance to play folk music together at the highest level.W﻿e&#x27;ll meet for three hours of music once a month. You will need to be able to read music or learn quickly by ear. There are no auditions and you don&#x27;t need to be any particular grade. You will be expected to practise between rehearsals.Over four rehearsals in the summer term 2023, the Folk Sinfonietta will learn five complex pieces to a high standard for performance. <ul><li>Saturday 13 May 2023</li><li>Saturday 3 June 2023</li><li>Saturday 24 June 2023</li><li>Saturday 22 July 2023</li></ul>The 24 June rehearsal will include recording one of the pieces, which will be distributed to promote Wren Music’s 40th anniversary celebrations. All five pieces will be performed twice after the July rehearsal. Once on Saturday 29 July in Exeter, and once in a special concert which aims to take folk music to new audiences.L﻿ed by professional folk musicians Jon Dyer, Jenny Read and Paul Wilson, members of this group will enjoy complex arrangements and musical challenges in a fun and friendly group.
