Demystifying Venture Capital for Black owned Businesses As a Black entrepreneur, how can you secure investment from the venture capital world? According to research from Extend Ventures, from 2009-2019 only 0.24% of venture capital went to Black entrepreneurs – a total of only 38 businesses. Even worse, just 0.02% went to Black female entrepreneurs. Last year, when the Black Equity Organisation (BEO) launched The Future 100 Growth Fund (F100) programme, our partnership with Sky, we said that our ambition was to “back the next generation of Black founders to thrive and succeed”. Now as we reach the first anniversary of the F100, we are hosting a special event to help Black entrepreneurs better understand the venture capital (VC) world so that more of them can access this funding and use it to accelerate their business growth.The event will: <ul><li>Demystify the process and help you understand what VCs are looking for help you tell your story </li><li>Address how to tackle biases you are likely to experience and ensure you are properly prepared </li><li>The opportunity to pitch to investors who will provide feedback that will enhance your ability to pitch more effectively</li><li>Provide opportunity for speed networking with potential investors as well as network with other founders and investors </li></ul>Hosted by BEO and VC partners from Octopus Ventures, Anthemis Partners and Balderton Capital and others to be announced in the coming weeks Opening address: Ric Lewis, BEO Board trustee and Executive Chairman and Chief Investment Officer at Tristan Capital Partners.Panel discussion host: Eric Collins, CEO &amp; Founding member at Impact X Capital and Author of 'We don’t need permission'This event is for :<ul><li>You have completed or are in the middle of your first funding round</li><li>You are a Black founder or owned business with angel investment but no institutional investor support</li><li>Your business is launched or in active Beta</li><li>You are a Black founder with more than 51% ownership and/or have a material stake and provided direction to the business</li><li>Your product or service is tech-enabled through mobile or web</li><li>You are a founder or business with funding round sizes of £250,000 to £1m</li></ul>A﻿ttendance is by registration and selection. Hear from experienced VCs on how they assess early stage deals and what gets them excited about the founders, the team, the advisors and the business model. They will also share their experiences on what good looks like and how to avoid common mistakes made by entrepreneurs.
