The Horizons Institute convenes three interdisciplinary panels to discuss their views on some of the most pressing global challenges today.

The first in a series of three interdisciplinary panels, convened by the Horizons Institute to discuss their views on some of the most pressing global challenges we face today. Each panel will look at five themes, covering: Culture (the missing pillar); Rethinking global governance; Collaborative solutions to global health; Decolonising Agenda 2030; and Balancing the risks and rewards of transformative technology.These sessions will provide a platform to bring together international panellists for an organic and dynamic conversation around these themes, reflecting on how these could be addressed in local, regional and global arenas. As a member of the audience, you can also ask questions of the panel.Please note, a link will be sent to join online shortly before the event.Panel Chair Stuart Taberner is Director of the Horizons Institute. Between 2018-20, Stuart was Director of Interdisciplinary and International Research at UKRI (UK Research and Innovation), where he worked across the research councils, UK national academies, government departments, and overseas funders on the Global Challenges Research Fund. Stuart has extensive experience of working with Charities, NGOs, and international agencies such as UNDP, and sits on various boards. Stuart is also an active researcher. Ravi Gurumurthy is Chief Executive of Nesta, the UK’s innovation agency for social good. Ravi previously founded and led the Airbel Innovation Lab at the International Rescue Committee where he was responsible for designing, testing and scaling products and services for people affected by crisis in over 40 countries, from reducing acute malnutrition to expanding employment for refugees. Prior to joining the International Rescue Committee in 2013, Ravi held a number of roles in the UK Government, including Director of Strategy at the Department of Energy and Climate Change. Sarah Ichioka is an urbanist, strategist, curator and writer. She leads the Singapore-based Desire Lines a strategic consultancy for environmental, cultural and social impact initiatives. Sarah has been recognised as a World Cities Summit Young Leader, one of the Global Public Interest Design 100 and an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Institution of British Architects. She regularly delivers keynote lectures and panels on regenerative culture, design and development at high-profile events around the world. Her latest book, Flourish: Design Paradigms for Our Planetary Emergency, co-authored with Michael Pawlyn, proposes regenerative design principles for addressing our compound environmental and social crises. Jordan Mullard is a Research Fellow at University of Leeds and a Lecturer at Durham University specialising in the qualitative study of Covid, Long Covid, identity, race, and health inequality. Jordan’s PhD in social anthropology explored social mobility and identity-making among Dalits in rural India during a period of economic and environmental crisis. Jordan has been involved in the decolonising of anthropology and the curriculum in Higher Education; race equality; and Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) learning, development and policy. Kavitha Hariharan leads thought leadership on health for Marsh McLennan. Kavitha is currently focused on emerging risks and resilience in healthcare including workforce, technology, and climate intersections. Prior to this, Kavitha led research and consulting projects for health and life sciences clients at the Economist Intelligence Unit and INSEAD’s Euro Asia Centre.
