Study Day: Graham Greene's 'Brighton Rock'

We study social, cultural, local and seaside pier history, characters and events within Graham Greene&#x27;s 1930s novel, showing the seedier side of life in the town, slums and racecourse razor gangs. In the 1930s it cost 4d - about 2p - today to hire a beach deckchair. This year it&#x27;s currently £4! Morning session will be followed by a short seafront tour. After lunch there is an illustrated powerpoint sideshow showing the history of Brighton and its people in the 1930s, life in town and on the seafront and history of the West, Palace and seaside piers. You&#x27;ll be greeted with tea, coffee or a cold drink and biscuits Bring a packed lunch to eat on the beach or forecourt. There are many cafes nearby. Please read the short novel before the sessions. Lecturer and guide Sarah Tobias is ex-West Pier tour guide. Places limited to twelve only.
