Former Justice José Ramón Cossío  will deliver the online talk on Mexican Supreme Court of Justice: current goals and challenges

<h3>The Global South Network(GSN) has organised its third guest lecture.  Former Justice Mexican Supreme Court José Ramón Cossío will deliver his online talk titled "Mexican Supreme Court of Justice: current goals and challenges" on Thursday 29th of June 2023 15:00  - 16:30  UK TIME.   </h3><h2></h2><h3>G﻿LOBAL SOUTH NETWORK: AN INTRODUCTION</h3><p>GSN is a forum for research students, scholars, CSOs, judges, lawyers, and civil society organisations from different countries of the Global South including but not limited to Pakistan, Nigeria, Turkey, Chile, Colombia, and India. UK based Academics and researchers (including postgraduate researchers) focusing on interdisciplinary research (socio-legal, politico-legal, and/or socio-political) in the Global South run GSN. It aims to promote interdisciplinary research on and enhance international networking amongst the above groups in the Global South.</p><p>The launch event of the Global South Network took place on Friday 17 March 2023 2pm to 4pm . Justice Ayesha Malik, Supreme Court of Pakistan virtually gave the keynote speech.</p><p>GSN organised a hybrid conference on judicial independence in Africa on Wednesday 22 March 2023 9:30 am to 4:30 pm UK. Justice Dr Rasul Oriyomi Olukolu, High Court Lagos, Nigeria gave the keynote speech and Justice Sainabou Wadda Cisse, Court of Appeal, Gambia was the guest speaker.</p><h2>G﻿UEST LECTURE SERIES</h2><p>Previously, GSN  organised its first guest lecture by Justice Aruna Devi Narain of Mauritius Supreme Court . She delivered a talk (in person and online) titled "75 Years of UN Declaration of Human Rights: Challenges and Opportunities for the Global South" on  Friday 14 April 2023 11:15 a.m. </p><p>Now, GSN has organised its second guest lecture.  Honourable Dr Azmiralda Zahir, Justice Supreme Court of Maldives  will deliver her online talk titled "Reinforcing Democratic Values Through Online Hearings – the Maldives Experience" on Monday 5th of June 2023 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM UK TIME.   </p><p> Former Justice Mexican Supreme Court Dr José Ramón Cossío Díaz will deliver his online talk on "Mexican Supreme Court of Justice: current goals and challenges" on 29 June 2023 at 15:00 UK time. <p>José Ramón Cossío Díaz is a Doctor of Law from the Complutense University of Madrid. He has written 33 books and published various articles in collective books, academic journals, specialized journals, dissemination magazines, and newspapers. He was head of the Law Department at the Autonomous Technological Institute (ITAM) of Mexico for 9 years, as well as a Professor of Constitutional Law and Law Theory at the same institution. He is a Level III National Researcher in the National System of Researchers, as well as a member of the Mexican Academy of Sciences, the Mexican Bar Association, the National Academy of Medicine of Mexico, the National College, the Mexican Society of Public Health, the Board of Directors of Citibanamex Financial Group and the National Bank of Mexico, the Mexican Institute of Mediation, the Mexican Academy of History, the College of Bioethics, and the Mediation Committee of the International Chamber of Commerce in Mexico. He has been awarded important prizes and recognitions, including the National Research Award in 1998, in the area of Social Sciences; the National Award for Science and Arts in 2009, in the field of History, Social Sciences, and Philosophy; the National Jurisprudence Award in 2019; and 10 Honorary Doctorates awarded by various universities. Currently, he is a retired justice of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation, an associate research professor at the College of Mexico, and director of the Institute for the Strengthening of the Rule of Law (IFED). Additionally, he is a columnist for the newspaper El País and the newspaper El Universal, as well as a regular contributor to Aristegui Noticias.</p>
