Startup Meetup Sheffield: Openly discussing challenges

SIAN

Sheffield's startup ecosystem getting together - more vulnerable than ever before! Come and talk openly about your challenges.

Sheffield Technology Parks

Starting a business is one of the most challenging experiences one can have in the professional world. Entrepreneurs face obstacles, roadblocks, and setbacks, often feeling isolated in the process. While many entrepreneurs are increasingly empowered to discuss the difficulties of their journeys, there remains a stigma around talking openly about these challenges. The fear of appearing weak or ill-prepared, and the belief that failures will harm their reputation, often prevent entrepreneurs from being honest about their struggles. At traditional networking events, entrepreneurs often feel the need to put on a mask, concealing their true emotions and challenges. However, enough is enough. It's time to remove the masks and have candid conversations about the REAL challenges that ALL entrepreneurs face. We aim to create a space where entrepreneurs can be vulnerable and share their experiences without fear of judgment or stigma.By discussing our obstacles and being honest about our struggles, we can learn from each other, collaborate, and support one another in overcoming our challenges. We believe that honesty and vulnerability are essential to success, and we invite you to join us in creating a supportive and open community. Let's overcome our obstacles together.

Agenda

When you arrive, you will be given a sticky note where you can write your biggest difficulty right now and stick it on yourself. There will also be a space to write more about the challenges you have faced as an entrepreneur, including different sections (e.g. you can write about specific difficulties regarding growth, building a team, mindset, funding, etc.)

Arrival and networking

We will open the floor to everyone to get a chance and talk about their difficulties in front of the audience. This can include personal struggles in their role as entrepreneurs or specific difficulties related to building a business. Nothing is off the table!

Open Forum

We will identify and discuss the challenges and difficulties that are top of mind for attendees. Based on the topics that emerge, we will separate into small groups and hold roundtable discussions around each challenge. This will be a unique opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations with fellow entrepreneurs and problem-solve together in a supportive and collaborative environment.
