Every day, thousands of the children and young people who live here are inspired by the city’s culture to unleash their own creative side. They have the chance to develop their skills, talents and passions, becoming people who can thrive in a challenging, changing world and boost our wider society.But there are also thousands of young people who miss out on London’s creative opportunities. Barriers of inequality or simple lack of support stop young people from reaching their creative potential, which has knock-on effects for their chances of personal fulfilment and success in later life.What is the vision of A New Direction?Inequality is not set in stone; we can make London into a city with equal opportunities to engage with culture and be creative for all young people and children. This is our vision.We are working towards a society where all children and young people can thrive through developing their creativity.What does A New Direction do?We work directly with the organisations at the front line: schools, cultural venues, local authorities and businesses. We unite those organisations to campaign for better policies that serve children and young people. We organise joint events and projects to reach a broader audience. We connect young people to mentors, work experience and inspiration.Who does A New Direction help?Children and young people in London and through helping them, wider society.

A free CPD for teachers and practitioners exploring voice, visibility and empowerment.

Jacksons Lane Arts Centre

<h3>If you&#x27;re a professional working with Deaf, disabled or neurodivergent children and young people, we welcome you to this free CPD led by icandance. </h3>This training will share the specialised method developed and delivered at icandance, which uses dance and performance to empower disabled children and young people (CYP). The approach gives CYP a voice and increased visibility to influence a change in perspectives within their communities and beyond. The training will offer insights and strategies in developing a creative embodied approach and the impact of dance in enriching lives, connecting communities and celebrating differences. The workshop will be interactive and creative, allowing participants to share and reflect on current examples within their practice. The approaches shared through the training are transferable to other spaces and modalities. T﻿his CPD may be particularly useful for teachers, teaching assistants, youth theatre leaders and facilitators working in school or youth settings. T﻿his CPD session will be taking place in person at Jacksons Lane<blockquote>This training will be delivered by Juliet Diener Founder and CEO of icandance, a Dance Movement Psychotherapist, clinical supervisor, trained ballet teacher, a qualified specialist educator and inclusive dance consultant.  </blockquote><blockquote>Bringing together her expertise in education, dance, and psychotherapeutic approaches, Juliet founded the charity icandance in 2006. icandance is a creative, therapeutic community which empowers disabled children and young people through dance and performance. </blockquote><blockquote>She is passionate about inclusion and building creative communities which celebrate difference and support creative embodied responses to wellbeing. She is currently completing a doctorate study on her work at icandance and works, writes and researches extensively as a clinical specialist, lecturer, and therapist exploring creativity, embodied practice, dance, and inclusion. </blockquote>

<h2>A﻿bout I Am Festival</h2>I Am Festival is our yearly celebration empowering Deaf, disabled, and neurodivergent young people to explore their creativity. Over the past seven years, the festival has provided a platform for hundreds of young people to showcase their talents, leadership, ideas and opinions.
