Hands-on zine workshop exploring climate justice and engaging with the British Library's collections

Join Juliana Gaertner, British Library's first Environmentalist in Residence, for an immersive zine workshop that brings the Library’s environmental collections to life and invites us to reflect creatively on our collective struggle for global climate justice. In this hands-on workshop you will explore a curated audio-visual installation, learn about the power of zines – self-published booklets with roots in DIY and protest culture – and create your own zine with guidance from artist Hannah Kirmes-Daly.Everyone is welcome. No prior artistic skills or knowledge required. Refreshments and all materials will be provided. Feel free to bring additional images and texts to use in your zine.Free, 16+

Workshop facilitators:Juliana Gaertner is the Library’s Environmentalist in Residence. She has worked with communities, researchers, non-profits, and governments around the world to address climate change. Most recently, she worked for international NGO Global Witness and advised the directors of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research. She holds an MPhil in Environmental Policy from the University of Oxford.

Hannah Kirmes-Daly, the Library’s Guest Artist will facilitate the zine workshop. She is an award-winning queer artist working on the intersection of art, journalism, and social justice politics. She holds an MA from the College of Fine Arts, Universität der Künste in Berlin.
