Time for ICSs and local leaders to explore visions for Champions programmes & how Champions Programmes will support delivery of priorities

Collaborating effectively with communities is crucial to achieving health outcomes and health equity – and the past few years have made this even more visible. Champions programmes that ran across London during COVID-19 showed how important – and possible – it is for Councils, the NHS and others to engage directly, openly and regularly with communities. Champions programmes have transformed the way Councils, the NHS and others engage with and listen to communities now and in the future. In February 2023 the Community Champions Development Programme was launched to bring together people from every borough for Local Government and every place in the NHS to collectively further develop Champions models and embed them in work to reduce health inequalities and improve health outcomes. The CCDP network meets on a monthly basis, learning from each other and building practice. Sponsored by the Association of Directors of Public Health London (ADPH), Office of Health Improvement and Disparities London (OHID), UK Health Security Agency London (UKHSA), Greater London Authority (GLA) and London Councils, the programme is now introducing quarterly Dialogue Events where place-based leaders come together with senior leaders from across London and with local Champions Co-ordinators to explore how to maximise the value of Champions programmes – as well as wider community dialogue programmes. Please join community champions, members of the programme’s development network as well as Dr Tom Coffey Senior Advisor to the Mayor of London, Health Policy, Professor Kevin Fenton, London Regional Director at Office for Health Improvement and Disparities, Regional Public Health Director at NHS London and the Statutory Health Advisor to the Mayor of London and Martin Machray, Executive Director of Performance for NHS England London for this session. Places will have dedicated time to consider how to maximise the impact of Champions programmes on local priorities, health inequalities and health outcomes.
