Join Communities Inc in conjunction with Nottingham Contemporary for a FREE Sunday afternoon film to celebrate Refugee Week. Popcorn and non-alcoholic refreshments included!Limbo runs for 1hr 45min. There will be time at the end of the film for reflections and a short discussion (this is optional). Doors open at 1pm for a 1.30pm film start.Limbo is a poignant observation of the refugee experience, set on a fictional remote Scottish island where a group of new arrivals await the results of their asylum claims. The film focuses on Omar, a young Syrian musician.The group of refugees around Omar in “Limbo” is based on real people and real stories, although none of the characters were created after one specific individual.Limbo is not political, nor does it emphasise the laws and immigrations processes in the U.K. Instead, it asks for empathy for its characters. It’s funny, almost shockingly so, and the film allows the viewer to stay with Omar throughout his experience, even when those moments are uncomfortable or jarring. In the end, the audience will have connected with a refugee on a human level in a way that expands their perception of what it means to flee your home country and why someone might do that.This film is PG rated. *Nottingham Contemporary art gallery is a big green and gold building on the corner of Weekday Cross and High Pavement in the Lace Market area of Nottingham City. The venue is next door to Pitcher and Piano (the bar that was a church). Film screening will be held on the lower floor in the Space.
