Have you noticed that news stories about Artificial Intelligence are typically illustrated with clichéd and misleading images?

Abstract, futuristic or science-fiction-inspired images of AI hinder the understanding of the technology’s already significant societal and environmental impacts. Images representing AI as sentient robots mask the accountability of the humans developing the technology, and can suggest the presence of robots where there are none.This workshop will bring together artists and Machine Learning (ML) practitioners for a live showcase of the conversation and co-creation process that produces more accurate visual representations of data and ML content. Dr Rob Elliot Smith and Tania Duarte will set up a couple of specific drawing challenges related to the type of technology underpinning tools like ChatGPT, before exploring the uses of Generative AI in providing services to Londoners.About the workshop<ul><li>This session is about drawing pictures showing artificial intelligence technologies, applications and impacts. It is not about AI generated art.</li></ul><ul><li>The focus of this session will be two challenges in which you will be asked to sketch your ideas based on conversations between artists and technology experts. No artistic or technical skill or expertise at all is required, just a willingness to put pencil to paper. You will be asked to write your thinking behind the picture as well.</li></ul><ul><li>Your sketches and ideas are extremely valuable, showing the diversity of approaches and perspectives on the technology and impacts that exist. You will be asked if you wish to keep them, or donate them (or photos of them) to the Better Images of AI project to be used in a blog post and possibly a pop up exhibition based on the workshop in the Science Gallery London. We will also ask if you wish to be kept in touch if they are used.</li></ul><ul><li>You may wish to bring any devices or materials you use if you already create art, but materials will be provided for everyone. </li></ul>I﻿mportant information<ul><li>W﻿e kindly ask that you try to arrive in good time so the workshop can start promptly at 3pm. </li></ul><ul><li>If you find that you are not able to make it, please cancel your ticket through Eventbrite to make your place available for someone else.
