Guest speaker Dr Alon Zivony (Birbeck University) will be joining the UKRN Swansea to talk about Ten Rules for Socially Responsible Science

We at UKRN Swansea are delighted to welcome our guest speaker and host Dr Alon Zivony (Birbeck University, London) and co-host Dr Liadh Timmins (Swansea University) who will take us through their &quot;Ten simple rules for socially responsible science&quot; journal article. This paper provides simple guidance for researchers who wish to conduct socially responsible science, that is, science which minimizes the risk of harm for individuals and social groups beyond just those who take part in the research itself. Dr Alon Zivony is a postdoctoral research fellow in the Department of Psychological Sciences at Birkbeck, University of London. He received his PhD in cognitive psychology at Tel-Aviv University, and he is currently studying cognitive neuroscience. He will soon open his own lab at the University of Sheffield. Outside his focus on visual cognition, he cares deeply about social issues, and in particular about LGBTQ+ issues. This sparked his interest in the broader societal impacts of science and has also guided his academic work: He conducted several studies about LGBTQ+ stereotypes and developed a module on the psychology of gender identity and sexual orientation.T﻿he session will be hosted on Zoom, is open to all and is free to attend.
