Glasgow has a global reputation for hosting world-class major international and sporting events. Part of maintaining this reputation is ensuring that there’s a real commitment to embedding sustainability right across the event itself, from the planning and delivery to the legacy they leave behind.
But what role can these temporary events play when to comes to influencing sustainable behavioural change within their host city’s organisations, businesses and communities?
This event will showcase two hospitality sector led initiatives, Grounds for Recycling and Plate up for Glasgow, highlighting how global events such as the UCI Cycling World Championships and COP26 can be used as an effective catalyst for driving sustainable change for all.
“Grounds for Recycling is an ambitious and creative initiative. It is another impressive example of Glasgow nurturing bottom-up collective action to support the transition to a circular economy. The campaign is not only about upcycling spent coffee grounds into productive uses, it is about bringing together the city’s businesses, their staff and their customers and showcasing how reimagining waste as a resource can create community and opportunity. Other cities should watch and learn.”
