A  monthly Heritage Walk  around Brixton Market led by Brixton Society (R/C 1058103) volunteer guides.  The walk takes about 75 minutes.

There are three elements to shopping in central Brixton: street markets, covered arcades, and shops. The tour shows how shopping grew from nothing to make Brixton South London’s biggest shopping centre by the 1920s. The development of shopping was one of the key elements in the development of Brixton and a vital part of its history.We explore this development as we walk through the various markets and shopping areas. Huge thanks”.Included in the walk price of £5 per adult is a copy of the book Brixton Markets – a heritage walk, which otherwise retails at £2.00. The walk starts from the corner of Beehive Place and Brixton Station Road at 2.30pm and takes around one and a quarter hours.Booking for each walk is essential. A max 12 tickets will be available for each walk. Brixton Market is busy on a Saturday and group sizes have to be limited. The meeting point and walk details will be sent by e-mail a day or two before the walk. Occasionally walks may be postponed if weather is bad - for example extreme heat health warnings.
