<h3>Machines aren’t biassed, people are. </h3>AI has grown at an incredible rate and now reaches almost everyone’s everyday life. What does this mean for diversity?AI is a blank canvas, it’s inherently unbiased. But unfortunately AI takes on the biases - unconscious and otherwise, of its creator programmed into it. How can we navigate this and ensure that we have access to the latest tech tools without compromising on diversity and inclusivity?We’ve already seen in the news the negative effects that AI has had on marginalised people, from the 2020 A-level results that disproportionately marked down students from disadvantaged backgrounds to Amazon’s CV screening tool that showed discrimination towards women. At this event, we’ll be joined by Nayur Khan and Roxana Pamfil, who are both part of the QuantumBlack, AI by McKinsey team. Alongside Zoe Cunningham, director at Softwire technology, they will be discussing:<ul><li>How much of an effect does AI have on us every day? What does this mean for diversity? </li><li>What is QuantumBlack AI by McKinsey doing to help mitigate prejudice in AI?</li><li>Is having a diversity team enough? How can you promote a culture that allows people to speak up when improvements on diversity can be made?</li></ul><h3>Our panel</h3><a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/nayur/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Nayur Khan</a> Nayur is a part of the QuantumBlack, AI by McKinsey team. He is predominantly focused on helping organisations build capabilities to industrialise and scale AI to improve performance. He also helps companies navigate innovations, technologies, processes, and digital skills as needed.His work has spanned several sectors and industries, from energy and pharmaceuticals to healthcare and life sciences, finance, and retail. He assists organisations move away from pilots and experiments with AI to industrialised implementations that run reliably at scale.<a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/roxana-pamfil/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Roxana Pamfil</a> Having completed a PhD in Applied Mathematics at Oxford, Roxana is currently a Data Scientist at QuantumBlack, AI by McKinsey working with clients from different sectors. She likes keeping up to date with the latest ML research (and contributing to it on occasion), but also enjoys the more mundane aspects of her job like debugging code and staring at SHAP plots. <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/zoefcunningham/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Zoe Cunningham</a> Zoe Cunningham is a director at Softwire technology, having worked there for over twenty years and starting as a coder in 2000.
