CWGC Tour: Chattri & Patcham Downs Memorial for South Asian Heritage Month

Across Britain there are war graves and memorials at over 12,000 locations. From towering and dramatic memorials which bear the names of tens of thousands of missing personnel, to small and intimate local churchyards where perhaps only one service person is commemorated, there is so much to discover.

As part of South Asian Heritage Month, come and learn about the history of the Indian soldiers who are commemorated at this site.

H﻿igh up on the South Downs outside Brighton sits the Chattri Indian Memorial and the CWGC Patcham Downs Memorial which commemorates 53 Indian soldiers of the First World War.A﻿s part of South Asian Heritage Month, join us to learn the stories of these men, and the close connections between Brighton and the Indian Army. We will look at the work of the CWGC in commemorating these soldiers and those men of the Indian Army across the world who gave their lives in the First World War.M﻿eeting point: At parking location. Near Braypool Snack Van, Braypool Lane, BN1 8YF - we will gather there and walk across to the Memorial together. What 3words: help.shock.else. The walk over to the memorial is across fields and will take about 30 minutes. Please be aware that the site itself is hilly and uneven, so please wear appropriate clothing and footwear.T﻿here are no toilets or facilities at the car park or the Memorial.
