68-18: Finding the Clapton Beach
- an interactive walk bringing some Fringe-style flavour to E5 with storytelling, performance and books, in conjunction with award-winning bookstore Pages of Hackney.
50 years ago the Situationists were at the fore of Paris protests that almost brought down the government and still permeate our popular culture today.
But what is their connection to current London psychogeography writers like Iain Sinclair? How did they influence people like the KLF and famous punk icons in Hackney?
How can their techniques help us get more out of the city and maybe even improve our satisfaction with life? Can we find the mythical 'beach beneath the street' they talked of?
Using the tool of the Dérive (or 'drift') and the psychogeographical canvas of Clapton, we'll take a little wander with the Hackney Tours Mobile Museum in #ExtraordinaryE5.
Literature is key to this story - the walk will end at Pages of Hackney, our local indie bookshop who have curated a special shelf of books for further reading. Expect art, literature, psychogeography, philosophy, some controversy - and interactive fun.
Meet Clapton Pond 3.30pm. Arrive at Pages of Hackney 5pm. Cost £6 (plus fee). Under 15s free.
