Norfolk Community Safety Partnership invite you to participate in a focus group as part of the development of Norfolk’s response to the Serious Violence Duty. This focus group aims to inform the evidence base on serious violence in Norfolk. W﻿hat is the Serious Violence Duty?In January 2023 the Home Office launched the Serious Violence Duty, which requires a range of organisations to work together to prevent and reduce serious violence in their area. Norfolk Community Safety Partnership is the responsible organisation for Norfolk and wishes to involve the views of those working on the ground with communities at every stage of the process.The Partnership is currently completing a Serious Violence Strategic Needs Assessment (SNA) to understand how violence is affecting Norfolk’s communities. Once the evidence base is complete, the Partnership must prepare and implement a strategic response.W﻿hat counts as Serious Violence?The Duty guidance allows the definition of ‘Serious Violence’ and scope of what is included to be agreed at a local level. At this stage, we are including a wide definition of serious violence that includes homicide, knife crime, gun crime and areas of criminality where violence is inherent such as domestic abuse, sexual violence, county lines drug markets and exploitation.H﻿ow can you be involved?It is vital that those working with people involved in, at risk of, or impacted by serious violence are able to share their views and experiences to aid the development of the local evidence base and strategy. Your organisation may, for example:•	Work with victims and/or perpetrators of serious violence to reduce harm •	Work with communities/individuals at risk of being affected by serious violence, or•	Provide universal support aimed to prevent or mitigate risk factors emergingDuring the focus group, we will ask your views on a range of questions relating to the impact of serious violence, the drivers and causes, what is working well and what you feel could be improved. Your experience in this area will be invaluable, ensuring that the views of VCSEs are represented in the evidence base.M﻿ore informationTo ensure we include all valuable insight, the focus group will be recorded and transcribed to allow us to better capture the conversations. This will then be analysed by our team to ensure we fully incorporate your ideas into the evidence base. The recording of the focus group will then be deleted. All responses will be anonymised, but we may use a descriptor such as ‘community organisation’ so that our findings have context.In addition to this initial focus group, you are invited to opt into further discussion and involvement. This includes participating in a focus group with <a href="https://www.crestadvisory.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Crest Advisory</a> who are supporting Norfolk with our local response to the Duty.
