Join us for our next episode of Wild LIVE which will be titled COP28- reasons to be hopeful on climate action?As COP28 draws to a close in the United Arab Emirates - against a backdrop of alarming climate figures - The Wildlife Trusts will quiz decision-makers on what the conference means for us back here in the UK. In particular, we’ll be discussing how we can turn the climate story back round to one of hope and action, rather than empty words and hollow commitments. Join us in person to listen to this panel discussion and ask your burning questions!Refreshments will be provided from 6:30 pm and after the event there will be an opportunity for networking with drinks and canapes, so feel free to stay and mingle until 9:30 pm.Hear from our panel:L ord Deben - The Rt. Hon John Gummer, is the founder and Chairman of Sancroft International, a consultancy that advises both businesses and investors on all areas of Sustainability and ESG. Between 2012 and 2023 he was Chairman of the UK’s Independent Climate Change Committee. Lord Deben was also the UK’s longest serving Secretary of State for the Environment (1993-97) having previously been Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and FoodCaroline Lucas, Green Party MP for Brighton, Pavillion. Caroline was first elected as Member of Parliament for Brighton Pavilion in 2010. She served as leader of the Green Party of England and Wales from 2008 to 2012, and Co-leader from 2016 to 2018. From 1999-2010 she served as one of the Party's first MEPs and represented the South East region until becoming the UK's first Green MP. As an MP, Caroline has served as Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Groups on Climate Change and Limits to Growth. She has been a Co-Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Groups on Fuel Poverty and Energy Efficiency and Democratic Participation, and Deputy Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Renewable and Sustainable Energy. She has also been Vice Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Groups on Better Brexit for Young People, Choice at the End of Life, Drug Policy Reform, EU Relations, European Citizenship Rights, Food Waste, Land Value Capture, Proportional Representation, Pubs, Refugees, Sixth Form Colleges, State Pension Inequality for Women, Students, Visitors' Economy and West Papua. And she has been an Officer of the All-Party Parliamentary Groups on Sustainable Food and Farming, Domestic Violence and Abuse, Hate Crime, Sexual Violence and Southern Rail. As an MP, Caroline has sat on Parliament’s influential Environmental Audit Committee and has also sat on temporary committees set up to scrutinise Government legislation.Rachel Solomon Williams - Rachel joined the Aldersgate Group from KPMG, where she advised major UK and global clients on harnessing the opportunities presented by the transition to net zero. Prior to that, Rachel held senior roles in several Government departments driving forward work on climate, energy and the environment. She has also acted as Manager Director at Sandbag, a climate thinktank, and spent a year in Tesco’s corporate affairs team. Throughout her career, Rachel has demonstrated interest in the opportunity for businesses to deliver meaningful, positive impact and in the vital importance of well-designed regulation in providing them with a level playing field.Joanna Lewis, Chief Executive of Wiltshire Wildlife Trust - Jo Lewis joined the Trust from the Soil Association, where she has been Policy and Strategy Director for the last eight years. Jo is a member of the Food, Farming and Countryside Commission’s ‘Farming Leadership Group’ and of the Food Ethics Council, which she formerly chaired. Before joining the Soil Association, Jo was Convenor of Defra’s Sustainable Consumption Roundtable and Head of Policy at think tank Green Alliance, which acts as an umbrella voice for many environmental organisations. Jo led the ‘Food for Life’ programme, aimed at giving every child the chance to grow and cook food and connect with farms, for nearly a decade. As part of this programme, Jo founded the ‘Food for Life Served Here’ scheme which now certifies two million healthy and sustainable meals served every day in schools, hospitals and care settings.Chair: Craig Bennett, Chief Executive, The Wildlife Trusts - Craig has been described as “one of the country’s top environmental campaigners”, by The Guardian as “the very model of a modern eco-general” and, in 2021, was included in The Sunday Times Green Power List of the UK’s top 20 environmentalists. Craig was formerly CEO of Friends of the Earth where he refocussed the organisation to empower communities to take action on the climate &amp; ecological crises, resulting in a step change in the scale and impact of the movement, with over 200 new Friends of the Earth community groups set up during his tenure. He also led the organisation to numerous campaign victories including on bees, fracking and against the expansion of Heathrow Airport. Earlier in his career, Craig was Deputy Director at The University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL), and Director of The Prince of Wales’s Corporate Leaders Group on Climate Change (from 2007 to 2010) which he transformed into one of the most progressive business voices on the international climate change agenda.
