A series of three online workshops with Ellen Renton open to all which will encourage a slower, gentler writing practice.

This event is part of Liberty Festival 2023 - the Mayor of London’s annual free festival celebrating groundbreaking work by Deaf, disabled and neurodivergent artists. This year Liberty Festival is being produced by Drunken Chorus as part of ‘This Is Croydon’, London Borough of Culture 2023. Through this series of workshops with Ellen Renton you will be guided slowly through the process of creating a poem. The workshops will be a relaxed, informal environment where any level of experience is welcome. Workshop 1 - Getting to know each other and getting the first words on the page. Workshop 2 - Playfulness and experimentation. Developing your initial ideas in different directions using writing exercises. Workshop 3 - Exploring the editing process to fine-tune your poem. Option to share your poem with the group.Ellen will also be performing <a href="https://culturecroydon.com/event/liberty-festival-finale/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">An Eye For An Eye For An Eye</a> at the Liberty Festival Finale on Sunday 3 September. Plus, you can catch her exhibition - <a href="https://culturecroydon.com/event/if-youve-seen-it-you-havent-seen-it/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">If You’ve Seen It You Haven’t Seen It </a>- throughout Liberty Festival. Both events will take place at Fairfield Halls in Croydon.<h3>D﻿ates</h3>Workshop 1: T﻿uesday 15th August, 6 -7pm W﻿orkshop 2: T﻿uesday 22nd August, 6 -7pm W﻿orkshop 3: T﻿uesday 29th August, 6 -7pm Y﻿our ticket will give you access to all three workshops<h3>A﻿bout the artist</h3>Ellen Renton is a poet, performer, and theatre maker from Edinburgh. She is a former recipient of both the Unlimited Emerging Artist Award and the R&amp;D award, which supported her solo theatre show Within Sight and a multimedia installation about home and family history respectively. In 2021 she released her debut poetry pamphlet with Stewed Rhubarb Press and was awarded a Scottish Emerging Writer residency at Cove Park. She regularly collaborates with artists from other disciplines, including electronic musician Lord of the Isles, filmmaker Douglas Tyrrell Bunge, and movement director Rachel Drazek.- A superb collection where every poem and word are crucial - The Fountain<h3>W﻿hat you will experience</h3>These are a series of online workshops on Zoom. You will be asked to engage in creative writing activities. There will be friendly, informal interaction between yourself, the workshop leader and other participants. In the first week you will be asked to introduce yourself to the group, however if you are not comfortable with this that is okay. <h3></h3><h3>A﻿ccess information</h3>These workshops will be a relaxed event, meaning you can take the activities at your own pace and come and go as you please without explanation. You will not be forced to speak or have your camera on if this is not comfortable or available for you. BSL interpreters are available on request for these workshops. If you require a BSL interpreter to access the workshops, please indicate this in the access section of the booking form.
