Hosted GM Ringway walk from Strines to Marple

The GM Ringway is Greater Manchester’s walking trail. Covering all ten boroughs of the city-region, the trail explores an astonishing variety of landscapes, including parks, waterways and beautiful countryside.Easily accessed by public transport, each of the trail’s 20 stages offers a unique walking experience. The GM Ringway visits some of the region's most iconic landscapes, including historic canals, the Mersey Valley, the Peak District National Park, the South and West Pennines, and the new 'Flashes of Wigan and Leigh' National Nature Reserve.

Together, we can end homelessness.The walk includes a fantastic mix of canal-side, moorland and valley scenery with stunning Peak District views. Walk highlights:– The tiny hamlet of Brookbottom– An exploration of Mellor Moor, a high plateau offering stunning views, with one of the two highest summits in Stockport– Mellor village, with its Iron Age archaeological site and church with the oldest wooden pulpit in England– The ‘Roman Lakes’, a Victorian beauty spot in the picturesque Goyt Valley– The famous flight of locks at Marple.Participants will need to wear walking boots and appropriate clothing (including waterproofs if wet weather is forecast). The walk is open to all and there is no charge, but booking is essential. For all events, you are encouraged to pledge a minimum of £1 per mile. Leader: Phil FosterGrade: The walk is graded moderate with two main ascents, notably the climb onto Mellor Moor, and the ascent, largely up steps, after crossing the ‘Roman Bridge’ across the River Goyt. Apart from that, most paths are level or downhill. Mud and puddles are likely on certain sections. We will keep at a manageable pace to suit all attendees. Please note that the ascents and the varied terrain on this stage mean that the overall walk is not wheelchair or pushchair-friendly, but we are promoting <a href="https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/o/gm-ringway-greater-manchesters-walking-trail-18515842931" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">other events</a> that are suitable for all users.Access: All stages of the GM Ringway can be accessed by public transport. This stage links Strines and Marple train stations, both on the same line from Manchester to New Mills and Sheffield. Both the start and the end of the route can also be accessed by bus to and from Stockport town centre.
