Spicy space: Working as a neurodivergent therapist

F﻿ree2BMe Neurodiversity offers training, workshops and consultancy services around different aspects of neurodiversity, mostly around neurodiversity and mental health and counselling. We are a UK-wide, neurodivergent led and staffed service. Our training and workshops are always facilitated by neurodivergent trainers and we consult with neurodivergent people about our training content.

Spicy Spaces

Spicy Spaces are online, informal discussion based learning sessions on neurodiversity related topics that are relevant to practice in counselling/psychotherapy, coaching, and other mental health and allied work.

We often focus on the benefits of neurodivergent people working with neurodivergent therapists, like connection, understanding and valuing difference, but what is it really like to work as a neurodivergent therapist? How can we identify and celebrate our skills but also manage our challenges? A﻿reas we will touch on:<ul><li>In the therapy room: Boundaries &amp; self-disclosure, using supervision effectively, remaining congruent throughout the challenges of late-diagnosis self-discovery, going through the same process as your client parallel process etc. </li><li>Managing self: self-care, managing admin, getting support.</li></ul>This is a Spicy Space session where we focus on sharing our experiences and insights, and work together to better understand how we can work neurodivergent people. After a brief introduction, we will use group discussion to explore the topic. We will share what have we learned in our practice, and what we have noticed about ourselves in relationship with our clients. We will ask how can we share what we know to help others develop as much needed neurodivergent practitioners. Places are limited to enable deeper connection and sharing. Anticipated group size is 5-12. Please note we will encourage you to have your CAMERAS ON, for this event, to facilitate open and constructive discussions amongst the participants. We recognise some may prefer to leave them off. The facilitator will ask for participants to turn their cameras on at the start of the event. Please do not feel pressured to do so if that makes you uncomfortable - but letting the facilitator know you prefer your camera off is helpful, either before, or at the start of the session.
