7-Week Wheel-Throwing Pottery Course

£315 per person · 7 weeks · Maximum 3 people

Want to properly learn how to throw on the pottery wheel?

This 7-week course gives you the time, practice and individual tuition to build your skills week by week — whether you’ve never touched a pottery wheel before or you’ve had a go and want to become more confident and consistent.

With just three people in each class, there’s plenty of one-to-one help throughout. You won’t be trying to follow along in a big group — I can work with how you learn, help troubleshoot what’s happening on your wheel and give you the time to really get to grips with each stage.

What you'll learn

Across the seven weeks, we’ll work through the full pottery process, including:

  • Preparing and wedging your clay
  • Centring confidently on the wheel
  • Pulling up even walls
  • Throwing cylinders, bowls and other forms
  • Learning how to control and alter shape
  • Turning and trimming your pots
  • Adding handles and finishing details
  • Preparing your work for firing
  • Glazing your finished pieces

We alternate between throwing and turning throughout the course, so you’re not simply making pot after pot — you’ll learn how to take a piece all the way from a lump of clay to a finished ceramic piece.

Small classes, lots of wheel time

My wheel courses are intentionally kept small, with a maximum of three people.

Pottery is one of those things that is much easier to learn when someone can actually watch what your hands are doing. Keeping the group tiny means I can spend proper time with each person, adapt my teaching to you and help you understand why something is or isn't working.

There’s no pressure to keep up with anyone else. Some people pick things up quickly, others need a little more time with a technique — both are completely fine.

By the end of the course

You'll have worked through the whole making process and created your own collection of pots to take home.

More importantly, you'll have built a proper foundation in wheel throwing — understanding the clay, recognising what’s going wrong when a pot isn't behaving, and having the confidence to keep developing your skills.

Who is it for?

Complete beginners are absolutely welcome.

It's also ideal if you've already done a taster session or a little throwing before and now want the time to properly develop your skills.

Everything you need is provided, including clay, tools, glazes and firings.
