Migrant photographs and photographic object handling workshop. Photography has been one of the formative ways through which cultural encounters have been visually mediated over time and across different geographical locations.Do you have family photographs that you want to treasure forever? What do your photographs mean to you? Do you have photographs of relatives who have immigrated? Join us for an exciting event on Mon Oct 02 2023 at 11:00 AM at Safehouse 1, Copeland Road, SE15 3SN. This in-person workshop offers a unique opportunity to learn about photographic object handling and immigrant photographic collections.Share stories of relatives who have immigrated, and discover and hear stories of various other people who have migrated from Ireland. Explore the culturally differentiated uses and signifying practices of everyday photographic materials and technologies in migrant communities. Also discover how to preserve, archive and handle your valuable family photographs, whilst gaining insights into their historical significance and proper care. Dr Fitzpatrick will share her extensive knowledge and expertise, providing practical tips and techniques to ensure the longevity of your photographic treasures.Located at 139 Copeland Road, our venue offers a comfortable and conducive environment for learning and interaction. Engage with fellow enthusiasts, exchange ideas, and deepen your understanding of the fascinating world of photography.Please note: The workshop will be filmed for the purposes of promoting future workshops or otherwise. You consent to us (or any other person attending the Workshop) filming you and any persons attending the Workshop with you.
