Want to see what is worth reading coming out this year?Join us in the beautiful <a href="https://www.theportico.org.uk/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Portico Library</a> in Central Manchester for a fascinating discussion between Liang Hong, Liu Zhenyun and Peter Gries on some of the best upcoming Chinese literature in translation.<a href="https://www.mci.manchester.ac.uk/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Manchester China Institute (MCI)</a> and <a href="https://sinoistbooks.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Sinoist Books</a> are thrilled to introduce the two premier Chinese authors to the English reading public, in a bilingual conversation moderated by MCI Director Peter Gries, with the support of Dr Zhaokun Xin.

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS<ul><li><a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liu_Zhenyun" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Liu Zhenyun</a> is an author of novels, short stories and screenplays. His honours and awards are numerous, including the Mao Dun Literature Prize and France’s Knight of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.</li></ul><ul><li><a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liang_Hong" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Liang Hong</a> is an award-winning writer, essayist, and professor. She is known for her trailblazing focus on rural people’s stories.</li></ul><ul><li><a href="https://research.manchester.ac.uk/en/persons/peter.gries" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Prof Peter Gries</a> is the Lee Kai Hung Chair and Director of Manchester China Institute. He holds degrees from Middlebury, Michigan, and Berkeley, and has authored books and edited journals on China-US relations.</li></ul><ul><li><a href="https://research.manchester.ac.uk/en/persons/zhaokun-xin" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">D﻿r Zhaokun Xin</a> is Lecturer in Chinese Cultural Studies at the University of Manchester. His research focuses on Ming-Qing literature and culture, affect theory, gender and sexuality studies, and Sino-Japanese literary exchanges.</li></ul>
