Reimagining Masculinities

Healing Justice Ldn emerged as a collaboration by Women of Colour living in London working on the intersection of community work, trauma and health, creativity and liberation practice. We build community health, repair and self-transformation rooted in disability justice, somatic survivor work and trauma-informed practice working with communities of colour and other marginalised and underrepresented groups.

Healing Justice LDN

This workshop led by Healing Justice Ldn's Alex Augustin will explore the practice of combat/self defence training in a trauma-informed way as a rehearsal of true "protection". It will approach this vision of protection as consent-led, accessible, embodied, non-patriarchal and collective. Participants will think about how we can enact and build liberatory community and self-protection strategies and narratives as a response to the range of violences of patriarchal culture – including transphobic and gendered violence, rape culture and the disconnection of people who identify with masculinity from themselves, their bodies and their feelings.B﻿iographyAlex Augustin is a member of the core team at Healing Justice Ldn, where he works on their communications and the Reimagining Masculinities programme. Through his experiences of growing up in Brent, north west London, he has always had an awareness of injustice and inequity. Alex writes and has held discussions about the psychological and emotional impact of structural harm in "the ends". During his time working at the Ubele Initiative, he got insight into a range of community and movement work.AccessibilityIn personWe want to make this space as safe and accessible as possible, including for people with compromised immune systems and other underlying health conditions. Please take a COVID test before visiting and avoid attending if symptomatic. We encourage people to practice community care by wearing masks and respect each other’s personal space.
