A morning exploring Beatrix Ferrand's role in the design of the gardens at Dartington Hall. Farrand was one of the earliest and most celebrated American landscape architects, with commissions at the White House and Dumbarton Oaks; Dartington Hall was her only design in Britain. Gay Watson will talk about Farrand and her involvement with the Elmhirsts at Dartington Hall and copies of Gay's recently published book on the topic will be for sale. In addition Sue Minter and Penny Hammond will illustrate Farrand's work at Dumbarton Oaks with particular reference to similarities with Dartington. We will then tour the gardens with Neville Evans, head gardener, including an exhibition on Farrand in the Playhouse.10 am Tea/coffee and cookies, 10.30 talk.Please note that Dartington car park charges will be payable on the day and full information including public transport will be sent nearer the time.
