Prof Denise Baden will talk about the real-life people and projects that inspired Habitat Man and how she went from idea to publication.

Denise Baden is a Professor of Sustainable Practice at the University of Southampton. She has published widely in the academic realm and also in fiction. ‘Habitat Man’ was published in 2021, followed by ‘the Assassin’ and ‘No More Fairy Tales: Stories to Save the Planet’ in 2022. D﻿enise will talk about how 'Habitat Man' evolved and why she decided to take environmental issues and turn them into a work of fiction that mainstream readers of novels would enjoy. While the issues covered are serious, the tone is upbeat and the book shows us what we can all do in our homes and gardens to give our beautiful earth a helping hand. Currently the book is under consideration as a Radio 4 comedy. In 2018, Denise set up the Green Stories Writing project that challenges writers to embed green solutions in their stories via a series of free writing competitions. These are open to all, and 19 competitions have been run so far, which have resulted in several publications. The talk will be followed by a Q&A and book signing.
