The menopause is a natural part of every woman’s life, and the perimenopause usually starts when she’s in her forties. But even though it’s something 50% of the population go through, it’s still a taboo subject. Consequently, employers, families and even women themselves grapple with what the menopause is and what can be done to help. The silence, lack of awareness and understanding around the menopause has a personal, social and economic impact. That’s why menopause is everyone’s business: men and women, young and old. Knowledge is power, and the more you understand about the menopause the better your own experience of it will be, and the better you’ll be able to support others going through it. Did you know that …•	There are currently approx. 15.5 million women in the UK who are in some stage of the menopause transition and, with life expectancy increasing, this means that almost 40% of the average woman’s life is spent post-menopause •	Most women will start the menopause transition in their mid-to-late-40s, and an estimated 8 in 10 will experience some physical and/or mental symptoms of the menopause.
