National Black and Asian Writers Conference 2023

Cultureword  is a writing development organisation based in Manchester, providing opportunities for new and aspiring writers to develop their talent and potential. Our competitions, workshops and events act as a point of focus for many writers seeking encouragement and confidence. From small beginnings in 1977, we have grown into the largest new writing, community writing and publishing organisation in the North West. We work on regional, national and international levels, promoting new writing and helping new writers become more successful.

<h3>Cultureword’s National Black and Asian Writers Conference is back &amp; this year we’re in Oldham. The conference provides a unique opportunity for writers of any age and background to learn, debate and network. Taking place at Hack Oldham, the 2023 conference will include panels, stalls, performances, interviews, conversations, and a Draft Night.</h3><h3>Tickets are £10.00 for individuals, £20.00 for corporate tickets. What particular insights can Black and Asian writers bring to the tablePanellists: Maya Chowdhry, John Siddique, Chanje Kunda &amp; Radhaika Kapur4-5.15pm: How to Get PublishedIn the last ten years, there has been a significant growth in the number of Black and Asian agents, editors, and publishers. How has this changed things? Will Global Majority writers now find the doors to publication swing open more easily? What are the challenges faced by the agents, editors, and publishers themselves? What do writers need to know to improve their chances of success? This is a chance for writers to hear from those in the industry and to ask questions. Panellists: Yvonne Battle-Felton (John Murray), Rukhsana Yasmin (The Good Literary Agency, Saqi Books), Habiba Desai (Fox and Windmill) &amp; Cheryl Martin (Crocus)6.30pm-8.30pm: Draft Night with Yvonne Battle-FeltonA unique night of readings and conversation.Readers have 3-5 minutes to read from their manuscript. Readings will be just enough to leave us wanting to know, hear, or read more.
