Five Years

Ballads of the Broke&#x27; is an artist residency with Anne Robinson at Five Years .. Work will develop and have additions during these two weeks through two workshops on ‘Broadside Ballads’ * beginning with experimental song-making focused on wealth, and class.. asking questions like: ‘Why Am I Broke?’ ‘Are We Over-extended?’ and ‘Are You Uncomfortably Off?’… continuing through collaboration with Muttonfist Press to work with printing songs as experimental ‘Broadsides’.The works here instigated by Anne Robinson builds on the ‘Sci-Fi Folk Ballads’ and Broadside material from ‘Hurriers:Poor on the Roll’ installation/shows (2021) and on 2022 residency ‘Air and Grace Notes’ in which moments from the archives are expanded through critical fabulation, speculating beyond histories of the broke, banished, and usually unrecorded. Anne is based in east London, teaches Fine Art at Middlesex University and is a member of the Five Years Collective. @anrobsOpen to all.* Broadside Ballads were ‘story’ songs printed on one large sheet with illustrations and widely distributed and shared - common in the UK from the 16th to19th centuries.
