Special Palestine Screening and fundraiser.

Our next screening will be focused on Palestine and our donations will go to Palestine Children Relief Fund &amp; Palestinian Red Crescent Society. We will be screening films from the 1970s alongside more recent ones. We want to provide a sense of history to the recent events and foreground voices from Palestinian women. We hope to have a discussion after the screening with people more knowledgeable than we are. We want it to be space to learn, reflect, and grieve. We stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people, through the present horror and for a free Palestine. Films lineup: In the Future They Ate from the Finest Porcelain by Larissa Sansour (2016 – 29min): Combining live motion, archive and CGI, the film explores the role of myth for history, fact and national identity. A narrative resistance group makes underground deposits of elaborate porcelain – suggested to belong to an entirely fictional civilisation. Their aim is to influence history and support future claims to their vanishing lands. Once unearthed, this tableware will prove the existence of this counterfeit people. By implementing a myth of its own, their work becomes a historical intervention – de facto creating a nation. Your Father Was Born A 100 Years Old, And So Was The Nakba by Razan AlSalah (2017 – 7min): A ghostly voice echoes: the disembodied, imaginary voice of the filmmaker’s grandmother, a Palestinian refugee in Lebanon who was never able to return to her hometown. Her words haunt Google Street View images of Haifa, the only means she could have had of visiting her lost home. But 50 years after the “great catastrophe,” the streets are no longer recognizable. The old woman’s soul wanders in vain through cyberspace in search of her house, probably demolished after the Nakba, and for her son Ameen, imagined as a little boy from another time. Scenes From The Occupation by Mustafa Abu Ali (1973 – 13min): A rare film by Mustafa Abu Ali, one of the founders of the Palestine Film Unit, the first filmic arm of the Palestinian revolution. Shot by a French news team, the footage was edited by Mustafa in Lebanon to produce one of the earliest films on the occupied territory in Gaza. Scenes of the Occupation from Gaza employs experimental editing tech-niques to produce a cinematically and politically subversive film.
