<ul><li>Date: 4 December 2023</li><li>Time: 5pm - 7pm</li><li>LMS0005 - Turn &amp; Learn Theatre, Lincoln Medical School</li></ul>This is event is open to the public and free to attend.Abstract: Intersectionality acknowledges that everyone has their own unique experiences of discrimination and oppression. For criminalised, victimised, and marginalised women this can result in significant obstacles in accessing appropriate helping services. Helping services frequently respond to single needs or problems, and women with multiple and intersecting lived experiences are expected to attend different services that respond to the various facets of their lives. Services are not only siloed in the issues to which they will respond, such as addictions, mental health, domestic violence and abuse, or housing, but there are variances in access criteria, qualifications and experience of staff. Ultimately this can be confusing and impenetrable for those seeking help and support. In this lecture, Lyndsey will bring together her research over the past 10 years, which has sought to improve services for women. Drawing on cultural victimological frameworks and activist criminology Lyndsey will argue that service improvement for women is possible by utilising a gender-responsive, multi-agency, whole-systems approach that centres the voice and experiences of women.
