The play is set in 1992 just after Ukraine became independent after many years of Russian occupation. Another theme in the play is the lasting effects of the reactor meltdown at Chernobyl six years earlier.Two Ukrainians, Natasha and Vadym, are coming to terms with the personal costs of Chernobyl. An unlikely but powerful bond forms between them. So why should they welcome a priest from the Russian Orthodox church into their world?
